The Center was founded by Shri G.D Kothari - a philanthropist of stature and foresight, who wanted to bring together the finest medical & surgical talents and techniques and the best diagnostic and surgical facilities in one place.

1. In 1971 the Kothari Centre for Gastroenterology became a reality and it laid the foundation stone of one of the most high-performing medical facilities in Kolkata - Kothari Medical Centre.
2. A second unit of KMC in Bikaner is also serving the same purpose of providing outstanding medical expertise and care. This is a multi-faculty super specialty hospital with 150 beds, equipped with modern technologically and advanced equipment. It started operations on 2nd March, 1998.
3. Kothari Medical Center is a magnificent 10 storied hospital with 340 centrally air-conditioned rooms and is a city landmark at 8/3, Alipore Road, Kolkata, where ancient medical heritage and values meet modern and contemporary medical techniques.
